SMHD Announces CEO Transition 

Mammoth Lakes, California –January 23, 2026 – Following the announcement of his  impending retirement, Southern Mono Healthcare District today announced that CEO Tom  Parker will step down from the role of Chief Executive Officer, effective today.

“On behalf of the Board, I want to thank Tom for his leadership and contributions to  Mammoth Hospital over the past 7+ years,” said Laurey Carlson, Chair of the Board. “Under  his tenure, the organization has achieved unprecedented growth while embarking on the  single largest expansion in the history of Mammoth Hospital. At a time when rural Healthcare  facilities are struggling, Tom has overseen tremendous success, and we are forever grateful  for his dedication and impact. We support Tom’s decision to spend more time with family  and wish Tom all the best in retirement.”

“Tom Parker has designated Melanie Van Winkle, currently serving as Chief Financial Officer,  as interim Chief Executive Officer, effective immediately. Said Carlson, “Given the timing of  Tom’s retirement, the Board felt that an immediate transition to an interim CEO from within  the organization would best guide strategy while continuing focus on the evolution of  Mammoth Hospital. Melanie’s dedication to a ‘Patients’ First’ philosophy will serve our  community well. Her in-depth knowledge of our organization, and strong understanding of  the healthcare industry, and financial expertise aspects of healthcare ensure the continued  fiscal success of the organization.”

Parker said, “It has been a privilege to lead Mammoth Hospital. I am proud of what our team  has accomplished and confident in the organization’s direction moving forward to further the mission of Mammoth Hospital. I look forward to supporting the transition and cheering  on the organization’s continued success.”
