Mono Basin Scenic Area Visitor Center announces 2024 events
Join in on regular interpretive programming and special events!
Lee Vining, Calif., May 17, 2024 — The Inyo National Forest along with California State Parks, Eastern Sierra Interpretive Association, Mono Lake Volunteers, Mono Lake Committee, and Yosemite National Park staff partners will begin its annual interpretive programming at the Mono Basin Scenic Area Visitor Center from June 24 through September 4, 2024.
This year, the Visitor Center will also be hosting two special events celebrating the 40th Anniversary of the Scenic Area, a milestone was made possible by the dedicated organizations and volunteers who advocated for the comprehensive management of the area many years ago.
“Please join the USFS and partners as we recreate and enjoy this special summer to remember,” said Mono Lake District Ranger Stephanie Heller. “We also acknowledge we are on traditional lands of the Mono Lake Kootzaduka’a, who are stewards of the Earth and have been for many generations. We pay our respects to their elders, past and present, and recognize their enduring connection to this territory.”
Special Events
- Clinton Davis String Band: Sunday, June 16 from 4:30 – 7:00 p.m.
Thanks to support from the Mono County Library and California State Library Parks Pass Grant Program, the Clinton Davis String Band will be playing on the back patio of the Mono Basin Scenic Area Visitor Center in celebration of the Scenic Area’s 40th Anniversary! The Clinton Davis String Band is a new presence in the West Coast old-time music community, playing a repertoire of old time, bluegrass, and ragtime traditions. This event is free!

- National Public Lands Day: Saturday, September 28
Until the time and location details are secured, mark your calendars for this special event featuring potential habitat and trail restoration projects, family-friendly activities, and special interpretive programming! Another announcement will be forthcoming about this event.
