Mammoth Lakes Recreation This Week – May 26, 2023

Recreate Safely this Memorial Day Weekend!

  • Recreate safely this weekend in Mammoth Lakes around streams, lakes, and waterways. Significant spring flooding is expected throughout the region. All waterways are running at near full capacity – areas at risk of flooding include highways, roads, and recreational sites like campgrounds.
  • USFS has launched an Inciweb page specifically for updates regarding flooding impacts, road damage, and weather alerts throughout the eastern sierra.
  • The Lakes Basin remains closed for vehicle access.
  • Inyo National Forest campground statuses can be found here – some are open, but many are delayed due to snow and winter damage.
  • Parks and Facilities currently open include: Whitmore Pool (lap swim only), Whitmore Recreation Area (Ball Fields 1 & 3 and the Synthetic Sports Field & Track), Shady Rest Park (playground, restrooms, Ball Fields 1 & 2), Volcom Brothers Skatepark & Little Brothers Skatepark, Trails End Park, and Mammoth Creek East restrooms.   • Property owners can collect sandbags throughout the weekend from the Town Yard – 299 Commerce Drive.

 

Summer Camps on Sale – OPEN Registration Underway! 

  • Summer camp and swim lesson registration is underway!

Community Recreation Center (CRC) Update

  • Cleantek continued their work on the installation of our electric vehicle charging stations. When completed the CRC will feature twelve Tesla Super Chargers and four type 2 universal electric vehicle chargers. Two of the Tesla Chargers and one of the type 2 chargers will be stationed at ADA parking spots.
  • Work is also beginning on the mechanical enclosure that will house our chiller and HVAC unit. The contractors are also continuing the interior build out.
  • We are looking forward to opening the Mammoth RecZone this summer and LA Kings Ice at Mammoth Lakes in October.

Mammoth Lakes Film Festival (MLFF) is Underway! 

  • MLFF is a five-day festival that screens independent features and shorts in the spectacular setting of Mammoth Lakes—California’s premier mountain resort, high in the Eastern Sierra held over Memorial Day weekend.
  • Named as one of the Top 50 Festivals Worth The Entry Fee by Movie Maker Magazine for the past eight years in a row, MLFF showcases the work of emerging, innovative filmmakers against the backdrop of California’s ruggedly beautiful Eastern Sierra. Industry professionals provide mentoring and support, relationships and collaborations are actively promoted and nurtured.
  • The 9th annual Mammoth Lakes Film Festival, will be held through May 28, 2023.

Mammoth Mountain Update

EXPECTED LIFT OPERATIONS FRIDAY, MAY 26 – MONDAY, MAY 30

  • Chairs: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 17, 23, PG 1&2 and VG (Wind & weather permitting). Hours of Operation: 7:30AM-3PM.
  • Scenic rides will go from 7:30-4PM with the last ride from the top at 3:45PM. The Village Gondola hours of operation are 7:15AM-3:30PM.
  • Operations out of Main and McCoy include the Outpost which will be open Fri-Mon from 11AM-2PM, Sierra Grind which will be open Sat-Sun from 8AM-2PM, there will be a Taco Cart inside Tusks Bar Fri-Sun from 11AM-2PM and a S’mores Station on snow Fri-Mon. All Sports School lessons are out of Main.
  • Operations out of Canyon include rentals, demos, tickets on the third floor, and the retail shop. Beach Bar, Lincoln Bar, and Naan Stop will all be open Fri-Sun from 11AM-2PM.
  • Operations out of Eagle Lodge include retail, tickets in the main tent, and the Lunchbox Airstream Fri-Sun from 11AM-2PM. There will be no rentals at Eagle but Mountain Center will be open until 5PM on Friday 5/26 for next day rentals.

  • Chairs: 1, 2, 3, 5, 6, 11, 12 and 23 (Wind & weather permitting).
  • Hours of Operation: 7:30AM-1PM.
  • The Panorama Gondola will be closed for their maintenance period from 5/30-6/16.
  • Operations are based out of Main Lodge and The Mill. There is NO access back to Canyon or Eagle.

 

Fishing Update 

  • ICE FREE and accessible lakes include: Crowley Lake, Convict Lake, June Lake, Gull Lake, Silver Lake, Grant Lake, Bridgeport Reservoir, Upper and Lower Twin Lakes (Bridgeport), and Topaz Lake.
  • Creeks and streams are running high and fast. Be careful of flooding as temperatures rise and snowmelt increases.
  • Stocking has started in Mono County and will continue all summer.
  • Fish stocking in the Lakes Basin is scheduled to commence later in June or when the basin is open and accessible.

Camping Update

  • Inyo National Forest campground status can be found here – some are open, but many are delayed due to snow and winter damage.
  • Most campgrounds on the Bridgeport Ranger District of the Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest are open. Please call the Bridgeport Ranger Station for current openings or visit recreation.gov for reservations.
  • Most RV parks in Mono County are also open and offer extra amenities like hook-ups.
