Mammoth Lakes Police Department Seeking Public Comment on 2023 OHV Grant Application

Document

Mammoth Lakes, CA – The Mammoth Lakes Police Department invites the public to comment on the preliminary application to the State of California Off-Highway Motor Vehicle (OHMVR) Division for the 2023 Grant Cycle. The Department’s application was submitted to the state on March 3rd and the public review and comment period for the Grants and Cooperative Agreements Program begins on March 7, 2023 and ends on May 1, 2023, at 5:00 PM.

MLPD seeks funding to continue and build upon the Off Highway Vehicle (OHV) program, which was launched in 2021 with its first California OHMVR Grant award. The goal of the OHV program is to provide safety and education for both residents and visitors and to reduce intrusions into the wilderness and other protected areas. OHV Law Enforcement protects public safety by patrolling trails that are shared with other outdoor recreation enthusiasts. Officers enforce speeding, driving while impaired, green sticker registration, encroachment/trespass issues, offer accident support and more. This area has also seen a significant increase in dispersed camping. Dispersed campers often have illegal fires that pose a great risk of causing a wildfire in Mammoth Lakes. MLPD continues to support our Allied Agency’s OHV programs, which are critical to the safety and education of the public and off-road enthusiasts.

The Mammoth Lakes Police Department applied for this grant using the State of California’s On-Line Grant Application (OLGA). After the public review and comment period of 60 days, the final application will be submitted by June 5, 2023. The public may view and comment by visiting the State Grants and Cooperative Agreements Program website at https://ohv.parks.ca.gov, click on “Grants”. The OHMVR Division’s website provides detailed instructions for accessing the preliminary application and submitting comments. Comments can also be emailed to: [email protected].
