Town of Mammoth Lakes Introduces New Chief of Police

At the January 3, 2024, Town Council meeting, Dan Casabian was introduced as the new Chief of Police for the Town of Mammoth Lakes. Chief Casabian has been serving as Acting, and then Interim, Chief since January 2023. Town Manager Holler officially selected Chief Casabian on December 25, 2023, after a thorough interview process with several qualified applicants.

Chief Casabian’s journey in law enforcement began nearly three decades ago, in 1996, when he joined the United States Air Force. In 2001, he joined the Riverside County Sheriff’s Office and then accepted a position in 2002 as a Police Officer with the Mammoth Lakes Police Department. He worked a number of special assignments including Honor Guard, K9 Officer, and Detective. In 2013, he accepted a position as a Deputy with the Mono County Sheriff’s Office and worked there for about 6 years. In 2018, Chief Casabian came back to the Department as a Sergeant, becoming a crucial member of the Management Team.

At Town Council, Chief Casabian said, “I am grateful for my wife, Stacie, and our five children, cherishing every moment of raising our family in this breathtaking region we are proud to call home. I would like to thank the Town Council, Town Staff, Town Manager, and all members of our community for their support of the Mammoth Lakes Police Department. We will continue to work diligently to maintain the highest standards of excellence and to ensure that Mammoth Lakes remains a safe and secure place to live, work, and play.”

The entire Department is very proud to serve under the leadership of Chief Casabian and looks forward to a bright future for our beautiful and vibrant Community.
