Mammoth Lakes Community Update: November 23, 2022 (Thanksgiving Edition)

Thanksgiving in Mammoth Lakes!

  • The Mammoth Track Club is hosting the 8th Annual Mammoth Lakes Turkey Trot through the Trails community. Start your Thanksgiving morning out right with a 2K (1.24 miles) loop starting at 9am from Trails End Park. Costumes and fun are encouraged! Register online or at Trails End Park beginning at 7:30am.
  • The Village at Mammoth and the Town of Mammoth Lakes present the annual Tree Lighting Ceremony on Friday, November 25. Festivities begin at 5:30pm with live music and the official holiday Tree Lighting Ceremony at 6:30pm.
  •  The Opening Day and FREE Skate Night for the Mammoth outdoor ice rink is this Friday, November 25 from 7pm – skate rentals subject to availability.
  • In observance of Thanksgiving, the Town offices will be closed on Thursday, November 24, and Friday, November 25, 2022.

Town Awarded $3.7 Million for Access Apartment Project 

The Town of Mammoth Lakes received formal approval of its Department of Housing and Urban Development application for $3.7 million in Community Block Grant Funds for the Access Apartment project located at 238 Sierra Manor Road. The 11-unit affordable housing project is being managed by Mammoth Lakes Housing (MLH). The Town Council has committed an additional $1.5 million in Town funding for the project.

Winter Recreation Update

Mammoth Lakes Parks and Recreation: Register your child in our expanding youth winter programs and registration is also OPEN for our Winter Coed Adult Sports Leagues – Hockey, Curling, Indoor Soccer and Indoor Volleyball. Register online or call (760) 965-3690.

Mammoth Mountain: Main and Canyon will remain open for the season while Eagle lodge will be open from November 24-27, then will reopen for the weekends of December 3 & 4 and 10 & 11. Chairs 8 and 15 will operate during these times. There will be very limited services available at Eagle Lodge until the scheduled opening date of December 16 when it opens in full for the season.

Mammoth Snowmobile Adventures: Will operate from November 19-27, then open each weekend before opening daily for the season on December 16.

Woolly’s Tube Park: Expected to open for the season on Friday, November 25.

Tamarack XC: Tamarack Cross-Country Ski Center is OPEN.

Town Nordic Trails: Shady Rest Nordic Trails will be groomed as conditions allow. For up-to-date grooming reports check the Trails Conditions page on mammothtrails.org. Please clean up after your pooch, and if you bag it, take it!

Caltrans Reminds Motorists to Be Prepared for the Winter Travel Season

Caltrans is reminding all drivers to practice caution and be prepared when traveling this winter. With frigid temperatures and potential weather impacts forecasted for the holiday weekend, motorists need to be ready for whatever conditions the weather may bring. Before you hit the road for the holidays, plan your trip in advance with the Caltrans QuickMap website at quickmap.dot.ca.gov or the QuickMap app available for iOS and Android devices. QuickMap gives users the latest details on road conditions along with CHP incident information. To know if you’re fully prepared, Caltrans has put together a video detailing what you should pack before hitting the road.
