TOWN COUNCIL MEETING ACTION ITEMS FOR MAY 20

Town Council waived the reading and introduced by title only the ordinance adopting Municipal Code 8.40 preventing the spread of the Golden Mussel into the Mammoth Lakes and Eastern Sierra waterways. Staff presented the FY 2026/27 Preliminary Town Budget to Town Council and will incorporate Council’s input and direction into the tentative FY 2026/27 Manager Recommended budget and present to Town Council on June 3, 2026. Town Council approved recommended recruitment incentives to fill vacant Lateral Police Officer positions. In observance of Memorial Day (5/25), the Town Offices will be closed to the public. THE MINARET MULTI-USE PATH (MUP) PROJECT BEGINS NEXT WEEK!

Construction on the NEW the Minaret MUP project begins next week. The new MUP will close the gap between the Town Loop Trail along Old Mammoth and Minaret Road and the Lakes Basin MUP, North Village, and mountain resort facilities near the intersection of Main Street and Minaret Road. Separate bicycle and pedestrian facilities will allow safe and easy access for community members and visitors who want to get out of their vehicles and walk, bike and ride from one end of town to the other.

SHADY REST PARK TEMPORARY CLOSURES FOR FUELS REDUCTION WORK

Shady Rest Park and Sawmill Road will be affected by fuels reduction work beginning Monday, June 1 as part of the Eastern Sierra Climate & Communities Resilience Project. Between June 1-19 Shady Rest Park (West) will be CLOSED between Shady Rest Skate Park and Shady Rest Volleyball courts, Monday to Friday, from 7:00am-5:00pm. This includes Shady Rest Skate Park, Soccer Fields 1 & 2, the Playground & Restrooms, the Picnic Shelter, Sand Volleyball Courts, Basketball Court, Disc Golf Park, and associated parking. Shady Rest Ball Fields 1, 2 & 3 and the Shady Rest Ball Fields Restrooms will remain OPEN through this closure. The paved portion of Sawmill Cutoff will be CLOSED from the Old Shady Rest Campground entrance, during this time. There will be NO ACCESS TO SHADY REST PARK via this road. Access to Shady Rest Park will be through the unpaved portion of Sawmill Road near the junction of US 395 and SR 203. Additionally, from June 1 to August 15, the Shady Rest Disc Golf Park and Shady Rest Multi-Use Path will be CLOSED AT ALL TIMES. Additional closures will occur later in the summer.

DID YOU KNOW THAT THERE ARE RULES SPECIFIC TO E-BIKES IN MAMMOTH LAKES?

To be classified as an e-bike, the bike must have pedals. Pedal-less electric bikes are not considered e-bikes and are classified as electric motorcycles. All classes (1, 2, and 3) of e-bikes are allowed on the paved multi-use pathways (MUPs). E-bikes are permitted on all streets, roads, off highway vehicle (OHV) routes, and soft surface trails within the Mammoth Mountain Bike Park. E-bikes are NOT permitted on soft-surface non-motorized trails outside of the Mammoth Mountain Bike Park. All riders are required to wear a helmet and follow the same laws as cars when riding on streets and roads. Unless modified to be street legal in conjunction with a motorcycle license, pedal-less electric bikes are only permitted on OHV routes and are NOT permitted on any town roads, sidewalks, or MUPs. The speed limit on the multi-use pathways is 15 mph. You must yield to foot traffic, be respectful of others, and watch your speed!
