TOWN CLEAN DAY WAS A HUGE SUCCESS!
Thanks to the dedication of the Mammoth Lakes community, the 2026 Town Clean Up Day and Sustainability Fair on May 15/16, 2026 was a huge success! More than 97 tons of waste was collected over the two-day event. This included 78 tons of green waste collected at the Transfer Station as well as in the 17 new roll-off dumpsters that were placed around town. These collections and community clean-up efforts dramatically helped increase defensible space and wildfire resiliency throughout town. Additionally, during the community clean up event and sustainability fair, more than 1 ton of litter was collected from sidewalks, multi-use pathways, parking lots, and trailheads on Saturday alone. The Town would like to thank the hardworking volunteers, Mammoth Disposal and the Mammoth Lakes Wildfire Task Force for everyone’s partnerships. And of course, a big thank you to everyone who brought items to the Town Yard and Mammoth Disposal, collected litter, and worked together to clean up town. See you on May 21/22 next year!
REPORTING BAD BEAR BEHAVIOR
Bears have long been a prominent symbol of wildlife in Mammoth Lakes, and it’s everyone’s responsibility to respect and care for them. By reporting a bear that is demonstrating bad behavior such as getting overly close to people, getting into dumpsters or threatening people for food, you allow professionals the opportunity to teach the bear proper behavior through negative conditioning. This helps prevent the bear from evolving into further bad behavior that can lead to conflict. The Town is dedicated to caring for all wildlife and continues to grow its partnership with California Department of Fish and Wildlife (CDFW) to help manage the wildlife in our community.
