Mammoth Lakes Community Dog Park Now Open!
The first-ever community dog park for Mammoth Lakes is now open!
The off-leash dog area is located on land owned by the Mammoth Lakes Foundation at 190 College Parkway and is approximately one acre in size. It includes a 5-foot perimeter fence, with a double-entry gate system and separate small and large dog areas. The dog park features 5,000 square feet of custom dog turf, 4 benches with water bowls in both the small and large dog areas. Leash posts are coming soon.
Parking is available for approximately 40 vehicles, and a restroom with water fountains and bottle filling stations is onsite.
In 2021, the Town began planning for a free, pet-friendly dog park that would encourage community inclusion, foster connections, and promote responsible dog ownership. A community dog park was identified in the 2021/22 Town of Mammoth Lakes Capital Improvement Plan (CIP) and the 2021 Parks and Recreation Department Strategic Workplan. This project was funded by the Towns general fund and a $50,000 award from T-Mobile Hometown Grant Program.
The Town would like to thank T-Mobile for their generosity and commitment to jumpstart vital community development projects in rural communities. The Town also acknowledges the Parks and Recreation Commission, Pawsitively Mammoth, the Mammoth Lakes Chamber of Commerce, Mammoth Lakes Recreation, Mammoth Lakes Police Department, Sierra Dog Ventures, and our many residents who passionately advocated for this much needed recreation amenity.
Mammoth Lakes residents and visitors have long needed a dog park to provide our dogs with a safe place to play off leash and a place where dog lovers can safely gather to swap animal tales. We are incredibly grateful to T-Mobile and the Town of Mammoth Lakes for helping make our dreams come true!, Barb Maynard, Pawsitively Mammoth.
Park users are required to adhere to the designated off-leash area rules prominently displayed at the entrance to the dog park. The rules communicate the expectations of both dogs and their owners and will be enforced accordingly by the Mammoth Lakes Police Department.
The Mammoth Lakes Town Council will celebrate the Towns first-ever community dog park with a ribbon cutting ceremony at 3 pm on Wednesday, November 6, 2024.
