Mammoth Festival of Beers and Bluesapalooza Changed Traffic, Bike and Pedestrian Access on Minaret Road from August 1-4

Town Council periodically authorizes resolutions for temporary road closures for special events in the Town of Mammoth Lakes. The temporary road closures are implemented to enhance public safety and provide for emergency access in and throughout the event venue.

The first major road closure of the summer season begins this Thursday, August 1 for the Mammoth Festival of Beers and Bluesapalooza located at The Woodsite (5699 and 5781 Minaret Road).

The Town Council Resolution permits a temporary road closure of Minaret Road immediately south of Main Street to Meridian Boulevard from 8:00am on Thursday, August 1, to 8:00pm on Sunday, August 4, 2024.

The temporary road closure is deemed necessary due to the high volume of event participants and the need to utilize the entire road for the event. This year, the event organizer was permitted to close Minaret Road to cyclists/e-bikes during the event. The width of the road is too narrow for a dedicated bike lane on Minaret Road to safely allow cyclists/e-bikes to ride through the venue, particularly in close proximity to the high volume of event participants and supporting infrastructure and vehicle staging for public safety. Unfortunately, there have been incidents due to cyclists/e-bikers traveling at high speeds through the event, despite informational signage to walk bikes along the road adjacent to the event venue.  Although there are many ways to get around Town, the highlighted detour for cyclists is the Sierra Valley Sites (Joaquin, Lupin, Mono or Manzanita) or Majestic Pines to Kelley Road (view the map).

Although cyclists are not permitted to bike along Minaret Road while the road closure is in effect, attendees are encouraged to ride their bikes to the event. Cyclists may enter from the North end of Minaret Road (Lake Mary Road/Main Street) and walk their bikes down a few hundred feet to the dedicated complimentary bike parking area.

As in the past, Free shuttle buses will run throughout Town servicing downtown and Main Street (Blue East route – every 30 minutes), Eagle Lodge Parking and The Village (Green West route – every 15 minutes) and Canyon Parking and 1849 (Red Canyon Loop – every 15 minutes) during the following days and times:

  • Thursday: 3:00pm – 12:00am
  • Friday: 2:30pm – 12:00am
  • Saturday: 8:00am – 12:00am
  • Sunday: 9:00am – 7:00pm

Please review the 2024 Event Shuttle and Transit Map for additional information or visit Eastern Sierra Transit for bus routes in and around Mammoth Lakes.

The Mammoth Lakes Police Department encourages all event participants not to drink and drive.

Thank you for your patience and understanding in the interests of public safety during the 28th Annual Mammoth Festival of Beers and Bluesapalooza from August 1-4, 2024.
