The USDA Forest Service Pacific Southwest Region ended the regional closure order affecting National Forests in California at 11:59pm on Wednesday, September 15. The Inyo reopened with no closures in place on Thursday, September 16Stage 2 fire restrictions are still in place on the Inyo and many neighboring jurisdictions. That means no campfires, even in developed recreation sites.

How to Obtain a Campfire Permit 

It is required to obtain a CA campfire permit for use of gas stoves or BBQs. This is required under the current Stage 2 Fire Restrictions Forest Order 05-04-50-21-21.

Persons with a valid California Campfire Permit are not exempt from the prohibitions contained in this Order. Persons with a valid California Campfire Permit, however, may use a portable stove or lantern using gas, jellied petroleum, or pressurized liquid fuel. State of the Inyo: Mammoth Ranger District Update

Roads open: Reds Meadow Rd., Lake Basin Rd., Mammoth Scenic Loop.

Campgrounds open: Brown’s Owens River (private), Crowley (BLM), Mammoth Mtn. RV Park, New Shady Rest (est. close 10/31), Pine Glen (est. close 9/26), Twin Lakes (est. close 10/17), Coldwater (est. close 9/26).

Campgrounds closed: Old Shady, Sherwin Creek, Pine City, Lake George, Lake Mary, Reds Meadow, Agnew Meadows Family, Agnew Meadows Horse, Agnew Meadows Group Pumice Flat, Pumice Flat Group Minaret Falls, Upper Soda.

Devils Postpile:  Area is open, but the Ranger Station is closed. The Reds Meadow Shuttle is not operating. Minaret Vista is staffed each day and will manage traffic issues as needed.

Mammoth Lakes Welcome Center: Open to virtual services seven days a week, 8:30am-4:30pm. ESIA is operating the bookstore daily, 8:30am to 4:30pm.

Housing Impact Fees Approved and Work at the Parcel Continues

On September 15 Town Council approved a 7% increase to Housing Impact Fees paid by new development. Initial tree removal for the first phase of development on The Parcel is continuing. Approval of additional State funding for housing will help secure funding for the first phase of building.

Weekend Activities and Events

Mammoth Oktoberfest begins today in The Village.

Parks and Rec is hosting a FREE skate night from 6-8pm Friday, September 17 at the Mammoth RecZone.  Scooters, skateboards, roller skates and roller blades are all welcome. Limited roller skates and blades are available for complimentary use.

The inaugural 2021 Mammoth Tuff event scheduled for September 18 was cancelled.
