Incarcerated Man Who Walked Away from Owens Valley Conservation Camp Apprehended
BISHOP – California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (CDCR) today announced the apprehension of a person who walked away from Owens Valley Conservation Camp in Inyo County on Tuesday, Aug. 6, 2024.
Ashiel Bahar, 37, was apprehended without incident in San Diego at approximately 8:10 a.m. on Aug. 7, 2024. Bahar’s case will be referred to the Inyo County District Attorney for possible escape charges.
Bahar was admitted to CDCR from San Diego County on Nov. 1, 2023, to serve a four-year sentence for first-degree burglary, using ID of another to obtain personal identifying information, grand theft firearm, grand theft exceeding $950 and evade or attempting to evade a Peace Officer while driving recklessly. He is also a second striker.
Since 1977, 99 percent of all people who have left an adult institution, camp, or community-based program without permission have been apprehended.
