Important Update Regarding Morning Incident at Mammoth Middle School

Dear Mammoth Unified School District (MUSD) Parents, Guardians and Staff,

This morning, the Mammoth Lakes Police Department (MLPD) received a tip from the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) regarding a Snapchat message shared by one of our Mammoth Middle School students. The message indicated an intent to plant a bomb at the school and was sent to a group of friends.

Please rest assured that the student was immediately removed from the classroom, and MLPD conducted a thorough investigation. It was determined that the student made the statement as a joke and did not possess any materials to carry out such a threat. A search of the student’s home confirmed that no dangerous materials were present, and MLPD has declared the situation all clear.

While the threat was not credible, this type of behavior is taken very seriously, and the student involved will face disciplinary action in accordance with district policies.

We understand the concern this may cause, and we want to emphasize that the safety of our students and staff is our top priority. We are grateful for our collaboration with MLPD. Please remember that if you or your students see or hear something, say something.  We have an anonymous tipline at https://appweb.stopitsolutions.com/

Thank you for your continued trust and support.

If you have any questions or concerns, please contact the school office.

Respectfully,
Annie Rinaldi, MUSD Superintendent
Ken Dutton, MMS Principal
