The Salvation Army in Bishop Announces Grand Opening of New Service Center

Bishop, CA – May 20, 2024—The Salvation Army announces the grand opening of its redeveloped community service center at 137 S. Main Street in Bishop. This facility will serve as a hub for various essential services, providing much-needed support to residents of Bishop and the surrounding areas.

The Salvation Army will continue to operate its daily Food Pantry, which runs Monday through Friday and is staffed by dedicated volunteers. The pantry is designed to help families in need by providing food and basic necessities. Additionally, the facility serves as a warming station during the cold and wet winter months.

“Thanks to the generous support of the Bishop community and private donors, The Salvation Army was able to turn its vision for a new community center into a reality,” said Major Darren Norton, Golden State Divisional Commander of The Salvation Army. “Please join us for the grand opening ceremony, where we will celebrate this milestone. Together, we can continue to positively impact the community by providing essential services and support. ”

In addition to its services in Bishop, The Salvation Army extends its support to neighboring areas, including Mammoth Lakes, CA, Lee Vining, Independence, and two locations in Lone Pine.

The Salvation Army also participates in the Annual Christmas Parade, offering hot chocolate to parade-goers. During Labor Day weekend, they hand out water from its Emergency Disaster Services Truck at the Tri-County Fair.

About The Salvation Army:

The Salvation Army was established in London in 1865 and began serving the Bishop area in the early 1990s, offering practical support, spiritual comfort, and a critical safety net to people in need. The safety net is partly funded by donations from the Red Kettle Campaign, which started in San Francisco in 1891. The Bishop community receives assistance from the Army annually through a range of social services, including food for the hungry, opportunities for underprivileged children and nutritional and housing support for seniors. For every dollar donated to The Salvation Army, 83 cents is used to support those services in facilities throughout Bishop.
