Eastern Sierra Landscape inspires new single by local artist Sara Kaiser / Nectar Moth featuring four layer cello arrangement by Shaun Diaz
September 13, 2024 – Bishop, CA – Today, singer-songwriter Sara Kaiser, known by her artist name Nectar Moth, releases her final single “The Wind Calls You Home” before the release of her album Unfurl on September 20th. This song is a cinematic, evocative reflection on the meaning of home in the deepest sense. With tender vocals and four heart-wrenching layers of cello by Shaun Diaz, the track offers listeners an introspective experience that is both timely and timeless.
“The Wind Calls You Home” was born out of the landscape of the Eastern Sierra. The opening lines of the song came through while Kaiser was on a walk on the trails of Mumy Lane, while the verses of the song come from the stunning landscapes of Owens Valley, the Sierra, the Whites, and the Ancient Bristlecone Pine Forest.
The heartfelt song maneuvers between vast landscapes and personal conversation, creating a unique narrative between our individual experience and the expansive world around us.
“The song is an exploration of the sanctity of this one life and this one earth,” says Kaiser. “It is an affirmation of the significance of your life, and a call to live deeply and meaningfully. It rejects the idea that human life is meaningless or unimportant. It turns that idea on its head, ushering each of us into the depths of our lived experience.”
The song makes a reference to the 1992 animated film FernGully: The Last Rainforest. The film’s message about the impact of human development on our natural ecosystems and our connection with nature finds a modern parallel in Kaiser’s lyrics.
“The song speaks to the painful experience of deeply loving the Earth while witnessing its degradation. It longs for the immense joy and relief that would come with our collective decision to do everything we can to safeguard our planet’s vitality, prevent unnecessary loss and destruction, and find a balance that supports future generations indefinitely. Ultimately, to me, the song is a statement of belief that humanity can achieve this.”
The cello, performed by cellist Shaun Diaz, weaves through the song, adding layers of emotion and depth.
“I only provided Shaun with a melody. He knew exactly what to do. He too has a deep connection with this land, so it was natural for him to understand the song and carry the energies of the Eastern Sierra through the cello.”
“The Wind Calls You Home” is the final single before Sara’s debut album Unfurl releases September 20th. And yes – as is characteristic of Kaiser’s work, there are multiple double meanings in this song.
“This song is a call to wisdom and to the depths of your soul. And it is not just about the landscapes we live in. It’s about the landscapes that live in us.”
