News Release

David McCoy Barrett resigns from NIHD Board

Northern Inyo Healthcare District (NIHD) today announced that Board Member David McCoy Barrett resigned from the NIHD Board of Directors. Mr. Barrett cited work-related scheduling conflicts as the reason for his departure.

Mr. Barrett’s resignation opens the Zone 1 seat — representing the areas on the west side of South Barlow Lane, plus the Manor Market, McLaren, Shepard, Rocking K, Starlight, Aspendell, Rovana, and the Mustang Mesa area — for appointment by the Board of Directors.

First appointed to the Board in 2023 and formally elected in November 2024, Mr. Barrett brought both a sense of family legacy and forward vision to his service. As the grandson of Mammoth Mountain Ski Area founders Dave and Roma McCoy, he often reflected on his grandfather’s conviction that NIHD and Southern Mono Healthcare District should work together to strengthen care for all Eastern Sierra residents.

Mr. Barrett played a key role in bringing the Mammoth Orthopedic Institute surgeons to NIHD earlier this year, expanding access to orthopedic expertise close to home. He also helped guide efforts to modernize the District’s communications, including supporting the production of professional video messaging to better connect NIHD’s story with its community.

The NIHD Board of Directors will discuss the Zone 1 vacancy and the process for appointing a new representative during its next regular meeting, scheduled for Wednesday, October 15, at 5 p.m. at the NIHD Birch Street Annex, 2957 Birch Street in Bishop. Interested District residents may contact NIHD Administration at (760) 937-8848 for more information about eligibility and application procedures.
