Traffic Advisory for the Week of 3/13/2023 – 3/17/2023

EASTERN KERN, INYO, and MONO COUNTIES – The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) announces the following project work and traffic impacts for the week of March 13 – March 17.

Work schedules are subject to change due to traffic incidents, weather, availability of equipment and/or materials, and/or construction-related issues.

Eastern Kern County

·        Mojave Guardrail Repair – On State Route 58 near the town of Mojave, the following on-ramps will be closed on Thursday while crews repair guardrail:

o  The Exit 167 westbound on-ramp at the junction with State Route 14 from Noon to 4:00 pm

o  The Exit 172 eastbound on-ramp from 9:00 am to Noon

Inyo County:

·        Cartago Median Work – On U.S. Highway 395 just north of the town of Cartago where the road expands into a four-lane divided highway, the northbound and southbound inside lanes will be closed Monday through Friday from 6:30 am to 5:00 pm. There will be a flagger on the northbound lanes to briefly stop traffic to allow trucks access to deliver material. Drivers may experience 5-minute delays.

Projects on the state highway system with minimal or no delays:

Eastern Kern County

·        Cummings Valley Left-Turn Lane Project – On State Route 202 at the southern intersection with Cummings Valley Road near the city of Tehachapi, crews are installing guardrail, striping the roadway, and constructing dikes Monday through Friday from 7:00 am to 5:00 pm.

·        Red Rock Canyon State Park Guardrail Repair – On the northbound lanes of State Route 14 between the southern boundary of Red Rock Canyon State Park and the Red Cliffs Natural Area, crews will repair guardrail Tuesday and Wednesday from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm.

·        W. Ward Avenue Closure – On State Route 178 W in the city of Ridgecrest, W. Ward Avenue will be closed at State Route 178 (North China Lake Boulevard) Monday through Friday from 7:00 am to 5:00 pm.

·        Ridgecrest Utility Work – On State Route 178 W between Jacks Ranch Road and Primavera Street, the outside westbound lane will be closed to allow for underground utility work Monday through Friday from 6:30 am to 5:00 pm. The shoulder will be closed 24 hours a day until the project is completed.

·        Ridgecrest Core Drilling – On State Route 178E between the junction with State Route 14 and the Kern/San Bernardino County line, crews will be drilling core samples Monday through Friday from 8:00 am to 3:30 pm. Drivers may experience short delays.

Inyo County

·        Olancha Shoulder Closures – On U.S. Highway 395 at the junction with State Route 190 in Olancha, there will be intermittent shoulder closures to allow trucks access to deliver material Monday through Friday from 7:00 am to 5:00 pm.

·        Bishop Golf Course Pavement Boring – On the northbound lanes of U.S. Highway 395 from Sunland Reservation Road to Jay Street, the outside lane will be closed while crews bore the pavement and place utilities Monday through Friday from 8:00 am to 3:00 pm.

·        Benton Utility Work – On the southbound lane of U.S. Highway 6 just south of the junction with State Route 120E (Mono Mills Road), crews will close the shoulder while they replace a utility pole on Wednesday from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm.

Travelers are asked to be attentive to workers on the highway, slow for the cone zone, and move over whenever possible to give additional clearance. Be Safe and Be Work Zone Alert!
