Caltrans Traffic Advisory for the Week of April 1 through April 5

Traffic Advisory for the Week of 4/1/2024 – 4/5/2024

EASTERN KERN, INYO, and MONO COUNTIES – The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) announces the following project work and traffic impacts for the week of April 1 – April 5.

Work schedules are subject to change due to traffic incidents, weather, availability of equipment and/or materials, and/or construction-related issues.

New Project Work

Inyo County

  • Bishop Fiber Optic Cable Installation – On State Route 168 W between Sunland Drive and Pioneer Lane, the westbound lane will close while crews install fiber optic cable. Work is scheduled Wednesday through Friday from 7:00 am to 5:00 pm. There will be one-way traffic control and drivers may experience 10-minute delays.
  • Lone Pine Fiber Optic Cable Installation – On U.S. 395 between Post Street and E. Lubken Avenue, there will be various lane closures and intermittent traffic stops to allow crews to install fiber optic cable and cross wire over the road. Work is scheduled for Tuesday through Friday from 7:00 am to 5:00 pm. Drivers may experience 10-minute delays.

Mono County

  • Lee Vining Pole Replacement – On U.S. 395 between Picnic Grounds Road and First Street, utility crews will replace a pole on Wednesday from 7:00 am to 5:00 pm. There will be one-way traffic control and drivers may experience 10-minute delays.

Ongoing Project Work

Eastern Kern County

  • Ridgecrest Sewer Replacement – On State Route 178 E between French Avenue and Gemstone Street, crews are restoring the pavement Monday through Friday from 7:00 am to 4:00 pm. There will be various intermittent lane closures and detours will be available. Drivers could experience brief delays.
  • Sign Replacement Project – Construction crews are replacing traffic signs in both directions in various locations on the following highways:
  • On State Route 14 from the northern junction with Business Route 58 in Mojave to just south of Rosamond
  • On State Route 58 from Exit 165 to just east of Boron Avenue

The shoulder will be closed to allow crews to replace signs. Work is scheduled Monday through Friday from 7:00 am to 5:00 pm.

  • Tehachapi Utility Work – On State Route 202 (Tucker Road) between W. Valley Boulevard and Tehachapi Boulevard, crews continue to repave the eastbound shoulder Monday through Friday from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm.

Inyo County

  • State Route 190 Repairs – State Route 190 between U.S. 395 in Olancha and the junction of State Route 136 east of Owens Lake remains closed for repairs. The highway is open through Death Valley National Park and can be accessed from U.S. 395 using State Route 136 in Lone Pine. Drivers are discouraged from bypassing road-closure signs.
  • Death Valley Middle Mile Broadband Project – On State Route 190 from the eastern boundary of Death Valley National Park to the Stovepipe Wells Ranger Station, crews are setting fiber optic conduit. Work is scheduled Monday through Friday from 7:00 am to 7:00 pm. There will be intermittent one-way traffic control and drivers may experience 10-minute delays.
  • NDOT Paving Projects – Due to paving projects in Nevada, there will be one-way traffic control in the following locations:
  • On State Route 178 E at the Nevada State Line
  • On State Route 127 at the Nevada State Line near Death Valley Junction

Work is scheduled Thursday and Friday from 7:00 am to 5:00 pm and drivers may experience 10-minute delays.

  • Horizontal Curve Warning Signs Project – On State Route 168 E from the junction with U.S. 395 near Big Pine to the junction with State Route 266 in Oasis, crews will install new horizontal curve warning signs Monday through Friday from 7:00 am to 5:00 pm.
  • Cartago Traffic Switch – On U.S. 395 north of Cartago, northbound and southbound traffic has switched to temporary lanes. Traffic speeds are reduced to 45 MPH through the current alignment for driver safety. Drivers may experience short delays.
  • Whitney Portal Road Detour Sign – On U.S. 395 near the intersection with Lubken Canyon Road, there are portable message signs informing travelers of a detour for Whitney Portal Road. Check with Inyo County Public Works for updates on access to Whitney Portal.
  • Olancha Shoulder Closures – On U.S. 395 at the junction with State Route 190 in Olancha, there will be intermittent shoulder closures to allow trucks access to deliver material Monday through Friday from 7:00 am to 5:00 pm.

Mono County

  • Fish Lake Valley Paving Project– On State Route 266 at both crossings of the Nevada State Line, there will be one-way traffic control due to a paving project in Nevada. Work is scheduled Monday and Tuesday from 7:00 am to 5:00 pm and drivers may experience 10-minute delays.

Travelers are asked to be attentive to workers on the highway, slow for the cone zone, and move over whenever possible to give additional clearance. Be Safe and Be Work Zone Alert!
