Caltrans Closing Mountain Roads Ahead of Snowstorm
MONO COUNTY – With the National Weather Service forecasting another snowstorm for the Sierra Nevada this weekend, Caltrans District 9 is closing three of its mountain passes on Sunday, October 17, as a precaution before the storm arrives.
- Sonora Pass/State Route 108 will close at 3:00 pm.
- State Route 120 W will close at 4:00 pm.
- Monitor Pass/State Route 89 will close at 5:00 pm.
All three roads will be assessed for reopening on Monday, October 18.
With snowfall starting to become more frequent in the Sierra Nevada, now is a good time to make sure your vehicle is ready for wet and snowy driving conditions. All motorists planning to travel to higher elevations during the fall and winter seasons should make sure they have snow chains or other traction control devices at the ready, as well as a snow duster to remove any snow that accumulates on their vehicle. Motorists should also check that windshield wipers are in good condition and ready for stormy weather.
For the latest information on road closures, please visit the Caltrans QuickMap website at quickmap.dot.ca.gov or call the Road Condition Hotline at 1-800-427-ROAD (7623).
