C5 Studios presents Kris Hohag: Ambiguous Healing Art (A.H.A.) Moments In Time
September 5 – October 11, 2025
C5 Studios is proud to present Ambiguous Healing Art (A.H.A.) Moments In Time, a show of artwork by multidisciplinary artist Kris Hohag. Raised in Payahuunadu, Kristopher Kwati-tatsinoba Hohag, aka Kwa-Z or “Uncle Kwaz”, is a citizen of the Bishop Paiute Tribe and also a descendant of the Mono Lake Kutzaduka’a.
In this public debut of Hohag’s paintings, the artist’s vibrant acrylic on canvas pieces reflect a deep connection to nature and the elemental forces that surround us, and an honoring of people and place that is both reverent and dynamic. Hohag’s colorful, energetic paintings invite the viewer to share space with artwork created through a process of honoring and healing. In the artist’s own words, “Since my first memories, I’ve been inspired and influenced by countless others and nature itself. Art has been a healing tool I have used throughout my life to find peace, gratitude and balance in a sometimes chaotic world.”
Abundant with color, pattern and abstraction, this captivating collection of paintings depicts familiar horizons and landscapes in a visual language somehow more analogous to an energetic, sensual or elemental experience of land and place than a visual recording. Hohag, a self-taught artist, offers viewers the honor of witnessing moments in time along an artist’s journey. “These are mercurial observations in the form of visual notes. I am always learning, excited to try something new. I love art because it is a safe space to experiment and express in a way that feels fresh and true. It is a place to renew and refresh our views, if we are open to it…”
The show opens to the public on Friday, September 5, 2025 at C5 Studios Community Arts Center with a reception with the artist from 5.30pm – 7.30pm. All are welcome!

Please come out to support little Jamie and his family through these challenging times. They need their community to stand behind them.
Stop in to C5 Studios if you won’t be attending the dance but would still like to contribute.
We greatly appreciate your support for Olivia and her family.

Make Your Own Tunnel Book – A 3D Diorama
A mixed media workshop with Marijke IJff
Wednesday September 10th – 5:30 – 7:30pm
Join this class to create your own mini diorama filled with your art! We will be walking through how to create a tunnel book and then everyone will get the chance to develop their own little world to put inside of their tunnel books.
These 3D artworks date back to the mid 18th century and were originally inspired by extravagant theater sets.
In this class, we will be drawing, collaging, and cutting to create the imagery within our mini ‘sets.’ This project does involve using X-acto knives to cut out intricate details to create the windows between your panels.
Take part in this class and leave with your own scene, displayed in a dynamic, three dimensional design. This experience is a way to deepen your understanding of layers, depth, perspective, and to have fun shaping and building your own microcosm!

Linoleum Stamp Making & Wilderness
A printmaking workshop with Jessie Sheldon
Wednesday September 24th – 5:30 – 7:30pm
Join us in an artistic ode to the unique ecosystems of the Sierra! In this class, we will explore the breadth of species that reside in the wilderness areas surrounding Bishop through stamp-making.
In this hands-on workshop, participants will learn how to create mini stamps of species found in the surrounding wilderness areas from mountain yellow-legged frogs to California golden trout. What is wilderness? What role does biodiversity play in wilderness? Or what on earth is abronia alpina? We will dive into these questions and more while gaining technical printmaking skills.
Our collective prints will come together as a collaborative stamp collage, representative of the complex ecosystems within the Sierra. Participants can take their stamps home to print more of these wild species onto love letters, grocery lists, important paperwork, and more.

Hand-Building Ceramics
A ceramics workshop with Bart Godett and Diane Hedding
Saturday October 4th – 10:30am – 1pm
In this workshop we will use basic hand-building ceramics techniques to build confidence in exploring clay and its properties. Participants will have the opportunity to make one or two (depending on complexity) fairly small pots, for example a mug or a bean pot or both. You will hand-build your creation and it will be glazed for you, creating a finished ceramic piece of your own design.
All materials and equipment needed will be provided, however if you have your own clay tools you are more than welcome to bring them. This class will focus on learning about clay properties, texture, and pot creation. Finished glazed pots will be available to collect from C5 Studios 2 weeks after the class, allowing time for the work to be fired and glazed.
The cost of this workshop is inclusive of a materials fee of $10 per participant to cover the cost of the specialist materials required.
This workshop is for ages 15+.
