Bishop Chamber of Commerce: When Life Gives You Aspens, Nature Paints Them Gold

Greetings from Bishop, CA!

When Life Gives You Aspens, Nature Paints Them Gold

New England might be known for its fall foliage… but it’s quick and fleeting. Bishop’s big backyard might arguably be the greatest destination if your favorite season is fall. It isn’t short or fleeting. Weather is perfect for leaf peeping or any outdoor adventure for that matter. And the best part? Our big backyard is even a bit bigger with fewer visitors as you take in Mother Nature’s fireworks.

It’s All About The Chlorophyll… Or Lack Thereof

As days get shorter and temps begin to dip, the trees are aware that winter is coming. The leaves begin to stop making chlorophyll and break down which creates the autumn splendor. Due to this combination, Bishop’s topography allows both visitors and locals to enjoy the change of color for MONTHS. All you need to do is to check our fall guide often to find out where and when the leaves are changing throughout the season.

Still Time To Catch That Last Fish

Just like the trees knowing that winter is just around the corner, so do the animals and fish. In fact, there are many anglers that will argue that THIS season is the best to go for that record setting fish. Less competition from other anglers, cooler waters, and fish fattening up for the long winter means they’ll be biting. And instead of an early dawn patrol, you can sleep in and prepare for a late morning outing. Even if you aren’t a fisherman, you can still “catch” your proverbial “big tuna” via a fall activity like bouldering, bicycling, or a good ole fashioned hike.

Fall Fun This Weekend

Bishop is bustling with all kinds of fun activities this weekend! The Owens Valley Cruisers will host the Fall Colors Car Show in the Bishop City Park. Laws Museum will host the ever-popular Choo Choo Swap Meet at the Tri-County Fairgrounds. Academy Street will be the place for Friday Night Market and Amigo’s Restaurant 30th Anniversary Party on Saturday. And, don’t forget about the “Wine Spooktacular” at the Bishop Union High School FFA Farm. There’s something for everyone – check out the events page on www.bishopvisitor.com.
