By Head Coach Mark Hodges

Last Friday and Saturday, six Bishop Broncos wrestled at the Central Section Divisional Tournament in Visalia. At this tournament, wrestlers have to place at least 3rd to go to the Central Section Finals. The Broncos going to the tournament were sophomores Kano Graves, Blake Braaten and freshmen Elbert Montoya, Wayland Schultz, Jaidyn McKellips, and Daxen Svacina.

Although they wrestled their best, none of the Broncos made it to the Central Section Finals. Kano Graves at 159 pounds had the best result for the team: He pinned his first two opponents and made it to the semifinals, where he lost. Unfortunately he also lost his next match, putting him out of the tournament. Other Broncos with two wins were Wayland Schultz at 150 pounds and Jaidyn McKellips at 175 pounds.

Head Coach Mark Hodges said, “I was proud of how all the boys wrestled. Even when they were behind, they never gave up. The team is young and I’m sure next year they will all do better.”
