We wrapped up our final dual meets of the season with a beautiful, cool day in Bishop, CA—until heavy rain arrived during the 3200m race. Bishop Union hosted Boron, Desert, Big Pine, and Mojave in what turned out to be an exciting day of competition.

Boys Recap:
The Bishop Broncos defeated Boron 88–32 and overwhelmed Desert 104–4, finishing the season with a strong 5–1 league record. There were several standout first-place finishes, but the highlight of the day was Freshman Wyatt Miears, who broke the freshman boys discus school record for the sixth time this season with a throw of 129′. He took first in discus against both Boron and Desert. Wyatt now ranks #8 all-time among California freshmen in the 2025 season—just 2 inches away from the #7 spot.

Girls Recap:
Our Lady Broncos beat Boron 91–19 and narrowly fell to Desert 57–56, closing their season with a 3–3 league record. Senior Meghenna Westervelt had a dominant day, winning the 100m hurdles, 300m hurdles, and long jump against Boron, and winning both hurdle events again versus Desert. Senior Gabby Veenker also had strong showings, winning the 100m against Boron and taking the 200m against both Boron and Desert.

It was a great day for the Broncos as we now turn our focus to the HDL Championship meet in Bakersfield, CA on May 7th.

Final Home Meet Fun – “Anything But a Baton” Costume Relay:
We closed out our last home meet of the season with our 1st Annual “Anything But a Baton” Costume Relay, featuring two fun and spirited teams:

  • Team Mario Party included Sophomore Soren Davis as Donkey Kong, Freshman Wyatt Miears as Luigi, Freshman Hunter Dailey as Mario, and BUHS English teacher Mrs. Kuhl as Princess Peach. Their “baton” was a 5-pound mushroom.
  • Team Tuba featured Seniors Steven Veenker, Parent-Jacob Eide, Alex Eide, and Alyssa Switzer, who ran with a small tuba as their relay item. After the race, Steven Veenker noted, “That tuba was heavy!”
