Bishop Broncos JV Boys Basketball Defeat Boron 59-22
The Bishop JV Broncos ended their fantastic year Thursday night with one of their typical dominating performances, beating the Boron Bobcats 59-22. Leading the way for the Broncos was Devaun Mitchell with 19 points, 8 rebounds, and 2 steals.
Devaun was unstoppable in this game, like many before, and should be a force on the varsity for years to come as he is only a freshman. Dom Dondero added 4 points, 5 rebounds, 1 steal and 1 assist. Dom, also a freshman, had many games where he was dominate. He’s an exceptional athlete, fun to watch in whatever sport he’s playing. Jekobe Dondero had 4 points, 4 rebounds and 1 steal. Jekobe, the third starting freshman, has the ability to easily create his own shot, and when he gets hot, he doesn’t miss. Will Kemp added 4 points, 5 rebounds, 4 assists and 3 steals. Will, the point guard marked up the stat sheet in every game. Charlie Lewis added 3 points, 2 rebounds and 3 assists. Charlie filled the role of whatever was needed and always played exceptional defense. This was the starting 5 for most games and would have been very competitive playing a varsity schedule.
Adding 5 points and 3 rebounds was Derrick Cortez. Derrick was our 6th man and always came in with hustle, strong rebounding and strong defense. Heath Fuller had 2 points, 2 rebounds and 2 blocks. Heath will be a very strong force for next year’s team on the inside. Levi Williams came in and hit 3 straight shots, finishing with 10 points, 2 rebounds and 1 steal. Michael Spratt added 2 points, 5 rebounds and 1 steal. Trey Safarik had 4 points, and 3 rebounds. Thomas Jackson had 2 points. Travis Hernandez had 1 rebound and 1 steal.
The Broncos closed out the year with a record of 13-1. This team has the potential of playing well into the playoffs over the coming years. It was a season to remember with the best yet to come.
Thanks go out to the fans, parents, administrators and everyone else involved in the program’s success this season.
