Bishop Broncos Golf Takes Win Against Burroughs in First Home Match

bishop broncos bronco golf

The Broncos hosted their first home match of the season Monday 3/4. The Broncos welcomed Burroughs from Ridgecrest to town and were able to come away with the team win. Bishop logged a total team score of 412 to Burroughs 470.

The Broncos started slow on the first 9 holes but were able to close out the final 9 pulling away for the win.

I was proud of how the kids responded to their slow start never giving in and focusing to finish strong. Burroughs has a great young team and gave the Broncos a fight. It’s great for the Broncos to get tested and have to bear down to compete and come out on top.

Individual scores:

Adam Kalk with the low score for the day, shot a 77. Adam struggled to start but caught fire from the 9th hole on. And finished very strong. On the final 7 holes Adam scored, Par, Birdie, Eagle, Birdie, Par, Par and Birdie.

Kobe Carpenter shot 80 also struggling at times, but kept the focus and finished strong. He’s really coming on and finding his game.

Corde Peek finished with a score of 84 and played lights out on the back nine after starting slow on the front. Corde was hitting his fairways and putting Greta shots on the green giving himself great opportunities to make par or birdie.

CJ Carrington also finished with a score of 84 and like his teammates, struggled at various times. Despite his frustrations he was able to stay focused and finished strong going Par, Par and Birdie.

Cooper Beard finished with an 87 and finally found some birdies and pars to give him confidence moving forward. Cooper has an amazing golf game and is struggling at the begging of this young season, but we have no doubt he will right the ship, so to speak, and play at the level he is capable of.

Parker Pope shot a 101, for his first match of the year against tough competition. Parker like everyone else struggled and was frustrated at puts not dropping. Parker is a great golfer and his game will get better like we know it can. He hit his stride soon.

First home match jitters and coming off playing 2 matches back to back I’m sure had some effect on the Broncos struggles. It’s always tough playing out first home match, defending your “Home Turf”. With the pressure of wanting to play great. I’m not sure if they put too much pressure on themselves, or just to excited, but they all came together and got that team win.

We were also able to play some of our JV players against Burroughs JV and came away with the top team score of 234 to 253.

Cooper Peek shot a score of 109
Nikolaus Poole finished with a 125
Robbie McBride scored 97

Garin Pritchard played today and shot an amazing 79. Were only allowed 6 golfers per match and this was his turn to sit out but I wanted him to play anyway to get experience and keep the focus. It’s one of those things that just happen. It was unfortunate we couldn’t use his score today but he deserves recognition and hopefully keeps up the amazing golf.

Next match is Wednesday 3/6 at Desert.
