Bear Activity in Mammoth Lakes from Oct. 16 to 31, 2021
10/17, Cliff Circle –
Report of a bear that broke into a home back in September.

10/17, 4:44 p.m., Chateau Road – Report of an injured momma bear with two cubs. The reporting party
was unsure on what to do. We receive several phone calls about these bears, and we are aware of their
existence. The cubs are healthy, and mother is getting around fine despite her injured leg.

10/20, 12:21 a.m., Minaret Road – Report of a bear in the trash. The bear was escorted out of the area
by Officers.

10/21, 7:10 a.m., Meridian Boulevard – A bear was reported at the middle school but was gone before
Officers arrived.

10/22, 11:32 p.m., Old Mammoth Road – Report of a bear in the parking lot at the Sierra Center
Mall. All the dumpsters were properly secured, and the bear could not access trash. The bear was hazed
away with one less than lethal round by Officers.

10/23, 10:18 a.m., Lupin Street – The reporting party stated that a bear tipped over a dumpster the
previous night. The dumpster was found tipped over but still locked upon arrival. The responsible party
for the dumpster was contacted.

10/24, 5:49 p.m., Old Mammoth Road – A report came in of a bear cub “stressing out” near the road.
The cub was gone and assumed reunited with mother when Officers arrived. Sows and cubs are really
good at finding each other when separated.

10/26, 3:54 a.m., Holiday Vista Drive – A bear broke into a garage after breaking the garage door and
then lingered in the front of the house eating garbage. The bear was gone when Officers arrived.

10/26, 8:09 p.m., Old Mammoth Road – Once upon a time, there were three bears in an open dumpster
eating garbage. The bears were hazed away using rubber slugs and the dumpster was secured. The End.

10/26, 8:30 p.m., Rainbow Lane – Two bears were reported in an open dumpster. One bean bag round
was deployed, and the bears dispersed.

10/27, 6:34 p.m., Beaver Trail – Report of a sow and a cub under the neighbor’s deck. The bears were
not present when the house was checked but damage was observed to the lattice under the deck and
there was evidence of bears in the area (poop).

10/27, 7:41 p.m., Canyon Boulevard – There was a bear and her cub in an open garage looking through
trash. The bears were hazed using less than lethal bean bag rounds.

10/27, 8:05 p.m., Old Mammoth Road – The bear with a bad back leg and her two cubs were reported
in the parking lot. The bears were hazed away with less than lethal rounds.

10/28, 4:12 p.m., Links Way – Officers observed a torn-up screen and an open window. Evidence
pointed to a bear having accessed the unit. The Property Management was contacted, and the unit
secured. A window had been left unlocked.

10/29, 11:49 p.m., Rainbow Lane – A large bear was enjoying a pizza and Mexican food that was left ON
TOP OF A DUMPSTER. The bear was hazed, the food was place IN THE DUMPSTER and the dumpster
was secured.

10/31,7:04 p.m., Silver Tip Lane – A bear was reported rummaging through the trash in an open garage.
They will do that. The bear was gone when Officers arrived.
