John Proctor is the Villain is a play by Kimberly Belflower that reframes Arthur Miller’s The Crucible through a modern, feminist lens, arguing that the traditional hero, John Proctor, is actually the villain. Set in a 2018 rural Georgia high school, the play centers on students in an English class reading The Crucible while dealing with their own local sexual scandal and the #MeToo movement. The students question the narrative of the original play and the men in their own lives, leading them to challenge authority figures when they realize the powerful male teacher, Mr. Smith, had a relationship with a student, Shelby.
We are also looking for high school students to audition.
Performances in April
