Sherwin Creek Pile Burning

February 26, 2024 – Inyo National Forest firefighters are planning to burn 3 acres of piles near the Sherwin creek campground starting Tuesday the 27th and possibly into Wednesday. Smoke will be visible from the Town of Mammoth Lakes, Highway 395, Highway 203, and Mammoth Mountain Ski Area.

Ignitions are closely coordinated with Great Basin Unified Air Pollution Control District, and National Weather Service meteorologists to ensure desired weather patterns and smoke dispersal are in place before ignitions.
