Winter Storm Warning for Mammoth Lakes in Effect from Early Saturday Morning (1/3) Through Monday Morning (1/5)

US National Weather Service Reno Nevada has posted a Winter Storm Warning for Mono County and the Town of Mammoth Lakes in effect from 12:00am Saturday, January 3 to 10:00am Monday, January 5, 2026.

Weather Forecast

Periods of heavy snow, rapid snow level drops, and strong winds for the Eastern Sierra begin early Saturday morning and continue through at least Sunday night. Snow accumulations of 1 to 3 feet above 8,000 feet with up to 4 feet locally on the highest peaks is forecast with ridgetop winds gusting over 100 mph at times.

Planned Road Closures

Davison Road. The gate will remain closed at the top of Davison Road until there is a significant stretch of clear weather. Motorists are advised to seek an alternate route.

Scenic Loop. Will be closed by the end of the day for the duration of the storm.

Sherwin Creek Road. The Forest Service will monitor and manage Sherwin Creek Road. The Town is not authorized to plow the road. Accessing Sherwin Creek Road during the storm is not advisable.
