Tragic Accident North of Bridgeport Leads to Fatality and Injuries
Officer Parks, the Public Information Officer for California Highway Patrol in Bridgeport, reported a tragic incident that occurred on Saint Patrick’s Day at around 8:50 pm. A vehicle traveling southbound on 395 encountered a hazardous situation at Rattlesnake Curve, just south of Swauger Creek Road and 10 miles north of Bridgeport.
Simultaneously, there was a report of a large boulder obstructing the road, measuring 2 feet high and 4 feet long. The southbound vehicle collided with the boulder, causing it to veer into the northbound lane and subsequently collide with another car before coming to a halt.
A 26-year-old woman traveling in the southbound vehicle was pronounced dead at the scene. The occupants of the northbound vehicle sustained major injuries and were transported via care flight for urgent medical attention. Fortunately, the occupants of the southbound vehicle suffered only minor injuries.
The Mono County coroner’s office was called to the scene, and after investigation, no arrests were made in connection with the accident. This incident serves as a somber reminder of the unpredictable dangers that can arise on the roads, especially during holiday periods when traffic is typically heightened.
