State Route 136 Reopens Between Lone Pine & Keeler
State Route 136 Reopens
LONE PINE — Caltrans reopened State Route 136 today between Lone Pine and Dolomite Loop. This four-mile stretch of highway has been closed since the end of May due to heavy flooding from this year’s historic runoff. Caltrans engineers and maintenance supervisors monitored the highway throughout the closure, noting any possible undercutting and roadbed saturation that would have made it unsafe for vehicle travel. With the recent break in the flooding, the area was able to dry out and crews were able to thoroughly inspect the roadway before approving it to reopen today.
The runoff from this year’s historic winter is ongoing and State Route 136 may close again if flood waters further impact the road.
With the summer travel season here, Caltrans reminds all drivers to download the Quickmap app to their iOS or Android devices or visit quickmap.dot.ca.gov. With Quickmap, you can get the latest information on road conditions on the California State Highway System, including lane closures, road closures, and rest area availability. You can also call the Road Condition Hotline at 1-800-427-ROAD (7623).
