Hi Andrea. How did you get started in the candle-making business?

I started Tree Of Life Essentials during the pandemic after I lost my job at a bakery. I was looking for something new, and I had been working in the food service industry for a very long time. I started making soaps and candles to find a creative outlet that wasn’t food related and fell in love with it.

What inspired you to become a candle maker?

I have always loved candles but they have all these toxic and harmful chemicals in them, so I thought how can I make them safe for myself to enjoy?  I found a company that has clean scents and I only use those or 100% essential oils to curate the scents for my candles along with clean burning wicks and 100% soy wax. No paraffins and no plastics, so it’s safe for me and you.

Can you describe the process of making candles in your own words?

It has become meditation for me. I use eco soy wax heated up and I blend together different fragrances to create my very own signature fragrances and mix it all up. I do believe my work as a chef has helped me blend fragrance together to get the best smell.

Do you have a favorite candle scent or design that you’ve created?

I love my goddess candles.  I’ve created a line of candles that embody the divine feminine figure with inclusiveness. My favorite scents have been the blends that I create with fragrances I brought back from Egypt.

What are some of the local events that you have sold your products at?

I have been at the Friday night markets in Bishop and Magick Nature. I’d like to get into some of the shops around town and more of the markets.

How has your business evolved over the years, and what are your future plans or goals?

It has evolved greatly with word of mouth and the natural buzz of being at the markets.  I’d like to get more of an online presence and to do nationwide.
