Spotlight On: Mammoth Mercantile
As part of our ongoing series, we are interviewing people of interest in the area who are having a positive impact on our community.
This time, we reached out to Mammoth Mercantile!

Please tell our readers a little bit about Mammoth Mercantile and what you offer.
Mammoth Mercantile is our modern take on the classic general store. A thoughtfully curated blend of artisanal groceries, clean essentials, and mountain-inspired lifestyle goods. You’ll find everything from organic produce, cheeses, and pantry staples to beautiful home wares, local artisan products, non-toxic personal items, and specialty treats you didn’t know you needed. We have a little bit of everything for everyone, from your friend’s new baby to your aunt’s dog. It’s equal parts provisions market and cozy boutique, designed to meet the needs of both everyday life and special moments in the mountains.
How did Mammoth Mercantile first come into existence, and what inspired its creation?
The idea grew out of a shared love for this community and a desire to create a space that truly reflects the spirit of Mammoth. When we moved here, we realized there wasn’t a place that blended elevated groceries with curated lifestyle goods. A place that felt welcoming, intentional, and rooted in the landscape. What started as a casual conversation quickly turned into a vision: a shop that felt like a love letter to Mammoth Lakes, where quality, beauty, and community live side by side on every shelf.

What values or philosophy guide your product curation?
We curate with three things in mind: clean ingredients, thoughtful design, and integrity of origin. If we wouldn’t use it in our own homes, it doesn’t go on our shelves. We prioritize woman-owned, local, small-batch, organic, and sustainable brands whenever possible. Every item is chosen with intention, and every product has a story, whether it’s milled nearby, crafted by a local maker, or sourced from a brand that aligns with our values.
What kind of experience do you hope customers have when they walk through the door?
We want people to feel instantly welcomed like they’ve stepped into a friend’s living room. The space is meant to feel calm, beautiful, and inspiring, but also familiar and down-to-earth. Whether someone is popping in for milk, picking up après snacks, or searching for the perfect gift, we hope they feel seen, at home, and part of something special.
Do you have a product or category that customers gravitate toward more than expected?
Absolutely! Our cheese and charcuterie selection has become a runaway hit. People also love our clean pantry staples and local artisan goods. And funnily enough, the ice cream freezer has developed its own loyal fanbase…. The ice cream sandwiches: if you know, you know.

What’s the most rewarding part of running this store?
Hands down, the community. Seeing familiar faces, meeting neighbors, and becoming part of people’s everyday routines feels incredibly special. Every conversation, every recommendation, every moment someone lights up because they found exactly what they were looking for makes all the hard work so worth it. Building something for this town, and watching it be embraced, is the greatest reward.
Lastly, where can people find you and what are your hours?
We’re located in the heart of Mammoth Lakes, at 126 Old Mammoth Road Suite 102.
We’re open 10 AM to 6 PM every day, with the exception of Tuesdays, when we’re closed.
Come say hi—we’d love to welcome you in.
A big thank you to Mammoth Mercantile for answering our questions!
