Bishop Chamber of Commerce News & Updates

February 17, 2022

From the Executive Director…

Hello Chamber Members and Friends,

Happy Friday! We hope this message finds you well and looking forward to a nice Presidents Day week. Things are great here – we’re busy and that’s the way we like it.

This weekend, chamber staff and volunteers are promoting Bishop in Del Mar at the Bart Hall Show and in Los Angeles at LA Travel & Adventure Show. Both events are well-attended and an important way to personally connect with 1000’s of guests.

The Bishop Chamber purchased 1600# of beautiful trout from Wright’s Rainbows – they were planted earlier this week in Pleasant Valley Reservoir and Owens River. We’ll arrange for another stocking just before Blake Jones Trout Derby on Saturday, March 11th.

Plans for the derby are going great. Thanks to a partnership with Friends of the Tri-County Fair, there will be a free live concert in the afternoon. Attendees are going to love ZZ TUSH, a fantastic tribute band that plays all the hits by ZZ Top and Lynyrd Skynyrd! We’re still looking for co-sponsors, prize donors and volunteers. If you are interested, please email April Leeson.

There are several new opportunities for professional and personal development highlighted in this message. There are also several fun events coming up for both locals and visitors. This email highlights a few of them and there are even more online at www.bishopvisitor.com.

Note – if your business or organization is planning an event, please let us know so we can add it to the web calendar. If you have a member-to-member deal or discount, please let us know and we’ll highlight it in our next e-news.

As always, thanks for your continued support!

Women in Mining

Visit Laws Railroad Museum & Historical Site for a women’s history month event on Saturday, March 11th.

Hear from history docents about the lives and experiences of some of California’s and Nevada’s women gold panners and prospectors.

The first 49 visitors to get autographs from all six docents will receive a bag of polished rocks “mined” from the museum’s gift shop!

Rides on the Pine Creek Tungsten Mine’s ore cart will be given, weather and staff permitting.
