FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

MOSQUITO FOGGING EVENT SCHEDULED IN BIG PINE AREA

Big Pine, CA — The Owens Valley Mosquito Abatement Program (OVMAP) will conduct  Ultra-Low Volume (ULV) fogging operations to control excessive adult mosquito populations in  and around the Big Pine area, including the Rolling Green housing tract, on Friday morning.

Truck-mounted fogging equipment will be used, with operations scheduled to begin between  4:00 and 6:00 a.m., weather permitting. If wind speeds are too high or temperatures are too low,  fogging may be postponed, as these conditions reduce treatment effectiveness.

This increase in mosquito activity is largely due to excessive high-water flows in inaccessible  areas along the Owens River, which have created ideal breeding conditions near communities.

Protect Yourself from Mosquito Bites:

  • Wear long-sleeved shirts and long pants when outdoors, especially during early morning and evening hours.
  • Use EPA-registered insect repellents containing one of the following active ingredients:
    • DEET
    • Picaridin
    • IR3535
    • Oil of Lemon Eucalyptus (OLE)
    • Para-menthane-diol (PMD)

Products with a higher percentage of the active ingredients offer longer-lasting protection.  Always read and follow label directions when using repellents.
