Fire Department Provides Life Saving Carbon Monoxide Information

  • What can’t be seen, smelled or heard, but CAN be stopped?
  • Often called the silent killer, carbon monoxide is an invisible, odorless, colorless gas created when fuels (such as gasoline, wood, coal, natural gas, propane, oil, and methane) burn incompletely. In the home, heating and cooking equipment that burn fuel can be sources of carbon monoxide. Every home should have CO alarms. During and after a snowstorm, make sure ALL dryer, furnace, stove, and fireplace vents are clear of snow build-up to allow adequate venting to reduce the chance of CO build up in the home.
  • CO alarms should be installed in a central location outside each sleeping area and on every level of the home and in other locations where required by applicable laws, codes, or standards. For the best protection, interconnect all CO alarms throughout the home. When one sounds, they all sound!
  • If the CO alarm sounds, immediately move to a fresh air location outdoors or by an open window or door. Make sure everyone inside the home is accounted for. Dial 9-1-1 for help from a fresh air location and stay there until emergency personnel arrive.
  • Please contact the Mammoth Lakes Fire Department at (760) 934-2300 for additional information.

Town-wide Snow Trucking Operations Continue

  • With support from the California Office of Emergency Services (CalOES), the Town has been conducting extensive snow trucking operations to widen streets throughout Town to allow access for emergency vehicles and improved access and visibility for residents.
  • Since March 30, over 2,160 loads of snow have been removed from our streets.
  • The fleet of trucks removing snow this weekend will expand to 44, with 3 loaders, one Town blower and several support vehicles to assist with trucking operations. Please visit the MLPD facebook page for daily updates.
  • If you’re wondering where the Town has dedicated its trucking efforts – there are lots of factors. Our most important input is from our road crew, the team that has been pushing and blowing snow around the clock all winter long. They have identified the most problematic areas for them to keep open. We prioritize safety, which means providing Police/EMS access to all parts of Town, maintaining bus routes, widening the most trafficked roads, and creating snow storage for spring storms where there is none left. Each section of road presents unique challenges and we are working with all of our teams to find creative solutions.
