Town Council Meeting Action Items for February 4, 2026

Policy Matters: (7.1) Town Council received a presentation on “Van Life” overnight parking efforts and provided direction to Town staff to work on a temporary, near-term solution to identify a site that can be used for overnight parking for the local workforce. Council requested this solution be available for use during the current winter and to proceed with recommended municipal code changes to implement a long-term solution to allow overnight parking at various sites subject to a use permit.

(7.2) Town Council received a presentation regarding opportunities to change Town parking policies around resort zones. The presentation facilitated a discussion about parking citation fines, parking signage, on street parking availability, mapping, and towing services. The Council directed staff to increase parking citations fines in resort zones and change signage. Staff will return to Town Council with the appropriate documents to implement these changes. These amendments will be approved as soon as the next Town Council meeting. Additionally, there was Town Council consensus to request proposals for towing services. Staff would work with a qualified operator to create an impound yard on the Town’s lot in the Sierra Business Park.

(7.3) Town Council waived the reading and introduced by title only the ordinance amending Town of Mammoth Lakes Municipal Code Chapter 9.32, Tobacco and Related Products. Just follow @Mammoth Lakes Ice for the Watch Party schedule and don’t miss Women’s Hockey: USA vs. Finland beginning at 7:40 am, this Saturday, February 7.

Meet LA Kings Captain, Anze Kopitar!

Meet Anze Kopitar, LA Kings captain and future Hall-of-Famer, THIS Saturday, February 7, from 6:00-7:00pm during open skate at LA Kings Ice at Mammoth Lakes. This is your chance to meet the current captain of the LA Kings before he retires at the end of this season.

Recreation For All!

This February, consider making a tax-deductible donation to the Tony Colasardo Scholarship Fund [https://www.townofmammothlakes.ca.gov/944/Tony-Colasardo-Scholarship-Fund] . These Town managed community scholarships are intended to remove financial barriers facing a family when deciding to participate in the many popular camps and programs offered by the Parks and Recreation Department. Thanks to the generosity of our community, in 2025, 106 children were awarded scholarships encompassing 172 Town-managed camps and programs, local youth sports teams and contracted recreation programs, valued at over $14,000. Tony Colasardo was a long-time Recreation Commissioner who was a passionate advocate for inclusion and social equity and believed that every child regardless of income level, ability, race or gender should have access to the benefits of parks and recreation. On Friday, February 13, Footloose Sports will also be donating 15% of their sales to the Tony Colasardo Scholarship Fund, so mark your calendar, come on in, and join us in saying “Thank you Tony!”
