INYO350 to Host Bishop City Council Candidate Forum
Local Group Hosts Bishop City Council Candidate Forum on Wednesday, October 2
The November election is drawing closer, and with ballots being mailed out in early October, voters will very soon start to choose who will hold several important local offices. In response, INYO350 is sponsoring a Candidate Forum for the Bishop City Council races on Wednesday, October 2. The event will start at 6:30 PM in the fellowship hall of the Bishop United Methodist Church. All six Candidates for Bishop City Council have been invited to speak and answer questions that evening with Kristina Blum Justice serving as the forum’s moderator.
INYO350 is hosting this event to offer local voters and residents the chance to meet and learn more about these six candidates, including their visions for our city’s future, and their positions on pressing local issues. “Our City Council members regularly make important decisions affecting our daily lives and our local economy,” notes Harold McDonald, INYO350 Chair. “Voters need to know where the candidates stand on important issues.”
All six candidates for this important office have been provided advance questions that they will be able to respond to after making brief opening remarks during the first half of the program. After a brief intermission, the candidates will respond to questions generated by the audience. “Engagement in local elections is at the very heart of the democratic process,” said Harold McDonald. “We need voters’ civic engagement now more than ever. INYO350 is happy to make this forum possible for folks who live and vote in the City of Bishop.”
City of Bishop voters will elect three candidates to the Bishop City Council in November. The six candidates running for the City Council include two incumbents, Jose Garcia and Karen Kong, and four challengers, Dennis Freundt, Tyler Beadle, Erick F. (Bink) Schat, and Sterling J. Schat.
Light refreshments will be available at the event on October 2. The Bishop United Methodist Church is located at 205 N Fowler Street. Ample parking is available. For additional information, please email [email protected].
