In Memoriam: Walter Harold Yahn

“Buster” Walter Harold Yahn
1936-2023

Buster Yahn, 87, of Vista, CA passed away peacefully on August 11, 2023 surrounded by his three loving sons and wife Connie. Buster was born April 1, 1936 in Los Angeles, CA. He grew up and graduated Lone Pine High School. After High School he joined the US Air Force as a gunner in the B-36 and B-52 aircrafts. He left the US Air Force to attend college at Orange Coast College, where he met his wife and mother of his three sons Barbara J. Yahn. Buster and Barbara went on to California State University of Long Beach where he graduated with a B.S. in Engineering. Buster went to work in the Aerospace industry with Rockwell International where he
was instrumental in the design of the Apollo 11 ignition system as a Cryogenics Engineer. Next to
being a Father this was his greatest accomplishment that he spoke of frequently. During this time his oldest Son Randy M. Yahn was born. Buster changed his career and opened up a State Farm Insurance agency in Orange County where he eventually retired. During his retirement, Buster and his wife Connie Scott created a flower farm in Vista, CA. Although he retired in Vista, CA, his heart stayed in Lone Pine, CA.

Buster is survived by his wife Connie; Mother of his sons, Barbara Yahn; his sons Randy, Scott, Robert; Grandchildren: Douglas, Catherine, Kyle, Ian; Great Grandchild Kainoa; His sister Joy Hunter; her children, Jimmie, Joanie, Janice, John and children.

Buster is preceded in death by his father Clarence Eugene Lewis Yahn; his mother Maurine Yahn; his step mother Lucille Yahn; his mother’s brothers Benjamin Randolph, Payton Randolph, Jim Randolph.

Buster was a great, hardworking, passionate, loving Father who loved time with his sons, collecting artwork, antiques, clocks, working on historic cars with his lifelong friend Jerry Hjeltness, gardening, using his mind and hands. Buster will be dearly missed. His legacy will live on through his many accomplishments, including his family.

A private grave-side service was held, June 28, 2024 at his final resting place in the Mt. Whitney
Cemetery in Lone Pine, CA.
