In Memoriam: Mitchell “Mitch” M. Vassar
Mitchell M. Vassar (Mitch)
Mitch was born September 5, 1935 to Melvin & Vira Vassar. He passed on October 19, 2024.
There were seven siblings, all have passed except a sister, Mary Harp.
He was born in Wilburton, OK. The family moved to Bishop when he was very young.
At age 17 he went to work for Union Carbide. While working there, an ore bucket fell on his right foot, severing his toes. He then went on to work for Joseph’s Market as a meat cutter. He purchased his father-in-law’s rural mail route on October 20, 1964. He drove from Bishop, Tonopah, Dyer to Big Pine post offices. 300 miles a day 6 days a week. He retired on September 11, 1997.
Mitch LOVED fast pitch softball. He was a pitcher; he was fast and accurate. He made many lifelong friends playing softball. He played early 60’s to 1972-1973.
He was married to Libby Olds for 57 years until she passed in 2010. He is survived by his children Marcy (Marty) Williams, Mitch, Missy (Jim) Miller. Grandchildren Cory, Ashley, Nicolette, Hayley & Mary Beth. Great grandchildren Ashlynn, Kevin, Luke, Nora & Arebella.

Services will be held November 9 @ 10:00a.m. at Calvery Baptist Church in Bishop, CA.
