Gaylene Marie Moose 1961-2023

Gaylene Marie passed peacefully with Family and Friend by her side in Reno, Nevada. Gaylene was born on November 11, 1961 to Bertha and Nelson Moose of Bishop. Gaylene resided on the Bishop Paiute Reservation up her passing. Gaylene Attention Bishop elementary, Big Pine Unified and Graduated at Lawrence High School in Lawrence Kansas. Gaylene was devoted parishioner of childhood Church, the Owens Valley Presbyterian Church. She believed in the traditional & customs of her Paiute people that were taught by her Grandmother Rosie Moose. Gaylene got giddy and loved attending family events & gatherings, community events and just spending time with her family and friends. Gaylene loved exploring the outdoors, riding her ATV with her long-time partner Eugene Sandoval. Gaylene grew on the Bishop and Big Pine Reservation and all her life, Gaylene finally settled in Bishop permanently in her grandmothers’ house on Brockman Lane for over 20 years. Gaylene worked for the Bishop Paiute Tribe, Owens Valley Career Development Center, Bishop Tribe’s Community Development Department for over 25 years. Gaylene was a big supporter and volunteer for the Tribe. She loved researching family history and was well versed in the history of family ancestry and was the go-to person for Tribal family history, and she was always willing to share her information. Gaylene Served as Chairperson of the Bishop Paiute Gaming Commission for over 10 years, Chairperson of the Bishop Paiute Development Corporation, and several Tribal internal committees. Gaylene had 5 brothers and 1 sister, she is survived by Eugene Sandoval, Sister Roseanne Moose, Brother Dave Moose, nieces Yonnie Gruber, Rosie Moose, Auwwahu Pierce, Annisa Moose, Melyssa Telly, Katie Rico, Nephews Allen Moose, Soda Moose, Halfmoon Adams, Joseph Moose, Darryl Moose. Preceded in death by her parents Bertha and Nelson Moose, Brothers; George, Darryl, Dean and Irwin, grandparents; Rosie Moose, Elsie Bowers Jagles, George Moose, George Collins, Aunts Frances Moose, Delores Miller, Niece Ann Moose and nephew Canon Adams. Gaylene had a strong spirit; she was a warrior and out hero to the end. She is with our Lord Savior and rejoicing with family and friends in Heaven.  Cry dance will be Friday May 12th at dusk, funeral service will be held Saturday, May 13, 2023 at 11 am at Valley Presbyterian Church followed by a graveside service at Big Pine Cemetery.
