High Sierra Energy Foundation Encourages Eastern Sierra Communities to Prepare for Flex Alerts
Mammoth Lakes, CA | August 2026: The High Sierra Energy Foundation (HSEF) is pleased to announce their partnership with Energy Upgrade California to promote the Flex Alert program to our Eastern Sierra communities.
HSEF is excited to continue educating community members about how Southern California Edison customers can help support a more reliable power grid. By signing up for Flex Alert notifications and reducing energy use during periods of high demand, residents can play an important role in keeping the grid reliable while lowering their own energy use.
On extremely hot days, the California power grid may experience strain between 4pm and 9pm as many people get home from work and perform household tasks. To lessen the strain on the grid, a flex alert may be issued to encourage customers to voluntarily reduce energy use in that timeframe.
To reduce energy use during a Flex Alert, consider these tips:
- Pre-cool your home before 4pm.
- Raise the thermostat to 78 degrees when the Flex Alert begins.
- Run major appliances, like dishwashers or washers and dryers, before or after a Flex Alert is called from 4pm to 9pm.
Voluntarily decreasing your energy use during a Flex Alert helps protect vulnerable communities. This means neighbors with infants, elderly community members, and people who rely on electricity for medical devices will be less likely to be impacted by a strained power grid.
