Geothermal Pipeline Maintenance Work to Temporarily Impact Roads and Trails Near Shady Rest Park

MAMMOTH LAKES, Calif., September 27, 2024— Geothermal pipeline maintenance work will begin September 30th on the Mammoth Ranger District in the area north of Shady Rest Park, north of Sawmill Road, and north of Highway 203. The estimated 8-week infrastructure maintenance is necessary to ensure continued safe and reliable operation of the geothermal energy system.

Every effort will be made to minimize disruptions during the project. However, to accommodate the work zone and ensure public safety, temporary road and trail closures will be implemented. Clearly marked detour routes will be provided to allow pedestrians, cyclists, and vehicular traffic to navigate around the work areas including a detour for The Knolls Loop Trail north of Shady Rest Park.

The public is advised to use caution and obey all construction signage when traveling through the area. The public’s patience is greatly appreciated as this important maintenance work is completed.
