Friends of the Inyo September Stewardship Alert!

Volunteer with us!

(We have donuts)

The season is winding down but we’re not done yet! With the Great Sierra River Clean Up just around the corner and National Public Lands Day right on its heels, we’ve got plenty of ways to volunteer in late September.

Next Weekend: Great Sierra River Clean Up

friends of the inyo

We love this annual, family-friendly event! Volunteers will spend the morning cleaning up the Artesian Wells in Bishop. These popular swimming holes keep locals cool all summer long but inevitably accumulate litter that will make its way into the Owens River. Bring your family, bring your friends, bring your dog (or cat!) and let’s keep out waterways clean.

Coffee and donuts for volunteers! Prizes from Looney Bean for best trashy find and most trash collected!

Celebrate National Public Lands Day with us in Mammoth on September 27th!

friends of the inyo

We’re teaming up with the Whitebark Institute to bust fire rings on the Mammoth Scenic Loop on National Public Lands Day. Scooping out overfull fire rings, reducing the size of overbuilt fire rings, and dismantling poorly placed fire rings reduces wildfire risk and helps keep our communitiies safe. Thanks to Southern California Edison for funding our wildfire risk reduction efforts.

Breakfast and coffee provided for volunteers!

Bonus! Volunteer with the PCTA

The Pacific Crest Trail Association is looking for volunteers for a “logging run” out of Chimney Creek campground from Saturday 9/20 to Sunday 9/21. The group will car camp and hike 9 – 12 miles each day to clear downed trees and brush trail. Hiking experience required but trail work/saw experience is not. This is an awesome opportunity to learn cool trailwork skills with the PCTA!
