For anyone who has wandered through an old cemetery and wondered about the lives and stories behind the names carved in stone, the Big Pine Cemetery District is offering a chance to hear some of those stories brought to life. After a hiatus of several years, the Big Pine Cemetery Heritage Walk returns Saturday, October 10, at historic Crocker Cemetery. The cemetery’s earliest burials are believed to date to the late 1860s, leaving more than 150 years of Big Pine history waiting to be discovered. Those who remember Heritage Walks of years past will find something different this year: all of the stories featured on the walk will be new. During the Heritage Walk, local residents portraying people buried at Crocker Cemetery will share first-person stories of their lives, their experiences and the events that helped shape Big Pine and the Owens Valley. Along the way, visitors may encounter a few other characters wandering among the headstones, perhaps still searching for a story, a familiar face, or even a lost soul.
