Traffic Advisory for the Week of 12/6/2021 – 12/10/2021
Cal Trans LogoEASTERN KERN, INYO, and MONO COUNTIES – The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) announces the following project work and traffic impacts from these projects for the week of December 6 – December 10, 2021.
Eastern Kern County:
·       Rosamond-Mojave Rehabilitation Project – On State Route 14 between the towns of Rosamond and Mojave, crews have placed more than 22,000 feet of Continuously Reinforced Concrete Pavement on the inside northbound lane and have reached the Backus Road overpass. During this phase of the project:
o  The southbound on- and off-ramps for Dawn Road, Backus Road, and Silver Queen Road are open.
o  The northbound on- and off-ramps for Dawn Road, Backus Road, and Silver Queen Road are closed until further notice. A temporary on-ramp for Silver Queen Road is available.
o  The speed limit is 55 miles per hour through the construction zone.
Work on this project is scheduled to conclude early in 2022.
·        Freeman Junction Utility Work – On State Route 178 E between one mile west of the junction with State Route 14 and the junction with State Route 14, there will be utility work scheduled for Monday through Friday from 6:00 am to 6:00 pm. There will be one-way traffic control and drivers may experience delays of up to 20 minutes.
·        Inyokern Utility Work – On State Route 178 E between the junction with State Route 14 and Redrock-Inyokern Road, crews will be placing utilities underground Monday through Friday from 6:00 am to 6:00 pm, There will be one-way traffic control and drivers may experience delays of up to 20 minutes.
San Bernardino County: (District 9 maintains a section of SR 178E to Pinnacle Road in coordination with District 8)
·        Trona Road Utility Work – On State Route 178 E between the Kern/San Bernardino county line and Trona Road, crews will be doing utility work Monday through Friday from 7:00 am to 5:00 pm. There will be one-way traffic control and drivers may experience delays of up to 20 minutes.
Inyo County
·        Owens Lake Sign Work – On State Route 190 between the junction with U.S. Highway 395 in Olancha and the junction with State Route 136, there will be sign work Monday through Friday from 6:00 am to 5:00 pm. There will be one-way traffic control and drivers may experience delays of up to 20 minutes.
·        Death Valley Sign Work – On State Route 190 from Saline Valley Road to Death Valley Junction, there will be sign work Monday through Friday from 6:00 am to 5:00 pm. There will be one-way traffic control and drivers may experience delays of up to 20 minutes.
·        Olancha Pavement Repair – On U.S. Highway 395 between Sage Flats Drive and Cactus Flats Road south of Olancha, crews will be repairing pavement from a recent traffic incident. Work is scheduled for Tuesday from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm. There will be one-way traffic control and drivers may experience delays of up to 20 minutes.
·        Bishop Drainage Cleaning – On U.S. Highway 6 between Wye Road and Dixon Lane north of Bishop, crews will be cleaning drainage Tuesday and Wednesday from 8:00 am to 3:00 pm. There will be one-way traffic control and drivers may experience delays of up to 15 minutes.
Mono County
·        Fish Lake Valley Pavement Work – On State Route 266 from 3.2 miles north of the junction with State Route 168 to 3.7 miles north of the junction, crews will be removing and replacing pavement due to a recent truck fire. Work is scheduled for Monday through Friday from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm. There will be traffic control 24 hours a day and drivers may experience delays of up to 20 minutes.
Projects on the state highway system with minimal or no delays:
Eastern Kern County
·        Tehachapi Crack Seal Operation – On State Route 58 between East Tehachapi Boulevard at Exit 151 and Cameron Canyon Road, crews will perform a crack seal operation on the outside lane Wednesday through Friday from 8:00 am to 3:00 pm.
·        Ridgecrest Utility Work – On State Route 178 E between Brady Street and Guam Avenue, crews will be doing utility work on Friday from 7:30 am to 4:30 pm.
·        China Lake Utility Work – On State Route 178 E between North Gordon Street and Triangle Avenue in Ridgecrest, crews will perform utility work on Thursday from 8:00 am to 2:00 pm.
·        Ridgecrest Utility Work – On State Route 178 E around Jack’s Ranch Road, crews will be excavating roadway Monday through Friday from 7:00 am to 6:00 pm.
Inyo County
·        Cactus Flats Shoulder Widening – On U.S. Highway 395 between Cactus Flats Road and Walker Creek Road south of Olancha, crews will be widening the shoulders Monday through Wednesday from 7:00 am to 5:00 pm, and on Friday from 7:00 am to 5:00 pm.
The Rosamond-Mojave Rehabilitation project is funded by SB 1, which provides $5 billion in transportation funding annually split between the state and local agencies. Road projects progress through construction phases more quickly based on the availability of SB 1 funds, including projects that are partially funded by SB 1. Travelers are asked to be attentive to workers on the highway, slow for the cone zone and move over whenever possible to give additional clearance. Be Safe and Be Work Zone Alert!
