Caltrans Reopens State Route 190 Following Extensive Highway Repairs
INYO COUNTY — Caltrans reopened State Route 190 between Olancha and State Route 136 following an extended closure caused by Tropical Storm Hilary. The highway originally closed on August 20, 2023, after Hilary swept through Inyo County and heavily damaged the pavement, destroying full sections of the road.
An emergency work order was quickly issued to Fisher Sand & Gravel to repair the highway. Work has been ongoing since the August closure and Caltrans has made improvements to the highway that will mitigate erosion during future weather events.
While this section of State Route 190 has reopened, drivers may encounter ongoing shoulder repairs. We remind all drivers to slow down when work is happening on the side of the road.
