Caltrans reminds to Knock the snow off your car before driving…or pay a fine

Large amounts of snow on top of a vehicle, like the one in this photo, is considered an unsecured cargo load and can result in a traffic fine.Snow and ice dropping from the top of cars, trucks, and SUVs can create hazardous conditions for other drivers on the road.
These piles of snow can also shift forward during braking and settle on the front windshield, obstructing the driver’s view. Caltrans would like to remind motorists to remove these piles of snow from the top of their vehicles before departing.
