BISHOP – Work is scheduled to begin Monday, April 3, on the Bishop Raised Median Project at two locations on U.S. Highway 395 (Main Street) in the city of Bishop, at the intersections of Church Street and Horace Albright Avenue. This construction project will:
· Install a 38-foot-long, 6-inch-tall pedestrian safety island at Horace Albright Avenue
· Build a 113.6-foot long, 6-inch-tall median and pedestrian safety island at Church Street
· Install delineators
· Erect new traffic signs
· Build planter boxes
Though Church Street is a one-way street, drivers have been known to use it to turn left onto U.S. Highway 395. The median at the intersection with Church Street is designed to prevent these left turns onto U.S. Highway 395 and provide safer crossings for pedestrians at the existing crosswalk. The pedestrian safety island at the intersection with Horace Albright Avenue is also meant to provide safer crossings for pedestrians, while preventing left turns into the one-way parking lot directly across the street.
Taylor Jane Construction was awarded this $195,551 project. During the project’s 15 working days, the inside northbound and southbound lanes at both locations will be closed 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. No major traffic delays are expected.
Work schedules are subject to change due to traffic incidents, weather, availability of equipment and/or materials, and/or construction-related issues.
Travelers are asked to be attentive to workers on the highway, slow for the cone zone, and move over whenever possible to give additional clearance. Be Safe and Be Work Zone Alert!
