Bishop Screening of New Documentary “Annapurna: Dreams and Nightmares” and Q&A with Don Bowie
Join world-class high-altitude climber Don Bowie for a screening of his new documentary, “Annapurna: Dreams and Nightmares,” at the Bishop Twin Theatre on Thursday, Aug. 8. All proceeds from this event will benefit Inyo County Search and Rescue, of which Bowie is an active member.
Filmed over two decades, the film explores high-altitude climbing “through the lens of failure, suffering, fear, and uncompromising resolve,” challenging the idea of the mountain as something for man to conquer. Featuring many of the world’s most prominent climbers, the film explores their experience with one of the world’s most difficult and dangerous mountains.
Eastern Sierra NOW’s hour-length interview with Bowie will be forthcoming in the coming days, touching on the film, the soul of modern mountaineering, and topics that will be controversial in the climbing community. Originally from Alberta, Canada, Bowie’s climbing expeditions have taken him all to remote regions across the world. He now calls Bishop home.
For the screening at the Bishop Twin Theatre Thursday evening, the doors open at 6:30 p.m., and the movie begins at 7 p.m., and a Q&A with Bowie shall follow. Tickets are $10 if purchased via online pre-sale, and $15 at the door. For more information, viewers can also visit annapurnafilm.com.
